Tory Johnson, CEO of Women For Hire, an organization that assists women in seeking and obtaining employment, provides tips on starting a small business in her "Tu-Tory-Al" on "@Work with Tory Johnson."

According to Johnson, the four key questions one should ask (and answer) before starting a small business are:

  1. What kind of product or service drives the business and is the business owner qualified to deliver it?
  2. Who is the target market and how will they be reached?
  3. What will be the business costs and how much revenue can be earned?
  4. What is the marketing plan or strategy?

Johnson describes this business startup analysis a “Small Business One-Pager” and advises that every prospective small-business owner develop one before investing serious time and money into a product or service concept.
