#5 Investment Under $25,000 for 2007

Foreign fractionalized timber investments are available in countries such as New Zealand with surprisingly affordable starting prices. Greenplan, a New Zealand company, offers shares as low as $NZ 7,500. Minimum investments with Roger Dickie, another New Zealand company, range from $NZ 10,000 to $NZ 40,000. (As of August 16, 2007, a New Zealand dollar was worth 0.6777 U.S. dollars.)

Timber investments are focused on long-term returns. Returns are not huge, but they are relatively steady, low risk investments. Since timber prices are not directly correlated to stock market prices, they also help to hedge against stock market volatility.
