Nicaragua’s Atlantic Coast also known as the Mosquito Coast is largely undeveloped. At present there is only one highway that connects the capital city Managua, to Puerto Cabeza at the northern end of the Atlantic coastline. Bluefields, known historically as a hideout for European Pirates, is the largest city on the Atlantic coast and is accessible only by air or boat.

Investment on the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua is primarily on the Corn Islands which are internationally recognized as world class diving destinations.
