Richard L. Peterson, M.D., is managing partner of Market Psychology Consulting. Peterson was a professional futures and equities trader and is a trained psychiatrist. He coaches market participants for sustainable success. His worldwide workshops teach attendees about investing psychology, analyst judgment errors, working with wealthy clients, achieving peak performance in the markets, behavioral market strategy and emotion management.

Peterson has published articles in top psychology, neuroscience, finance and economics journals. His book Inside the Investor’s Brain: The Power of Mind Over Money was published by Wiley (2007). He is an associate editor of the Journal of Behavioral Finance and a board member of SSRN in experimental finance. Peterson is the creator of nine investor psychology tests.

In addition to coaching, Peterson has experience designing quantitative market models. He has recently produced novel market sentiment indicators for institutions and hedge funds based on linguistic analysis of corporate financial news, accounting filings and message boards.

Peterson has been prominently mentioned in international media including the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Time Magazine and Money Magazine. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and daughter.
