Canadian Boom Town: Edmonton | Add Comment

  • Edmaboom? 5/4/2008
Edmonton may have a booming economy, steadily increasing population, world class university, oil sands stuff and more, but Saskatoon has something you don't have, a cool nick name, "Saskaboom". Unfortunately, it's not backed up by substance. New Stats Canada data, shows that in 2007 once again, Alberta led the west in economic growth, while Saskatchewan, at 2.8% growth, was last place of all western provinces. Also, a couple in Edmonton averages $15,000 more a year in wages, but in Saskatoon, housing is more, so when we retire and move to BC we win. Well if our housing stays valuable, which it probably won't, when people realize they can move to Edmonton make more and buy a nicer house and still retire to Kelowna. Touch Edmonton. Maybe Edmaboom, as dumb as it sounds has relegated us to Saskabust.

after checkin out your numbers your figures for house values are out of wack. You've got Edmonton worth way more than your source Royal Lepage has and you got Calgary far less than their values. Toronto and Vancouver dont line up to Statistic Canada or Royal Lepage. Edmonton house prices are falling faster than any other market. Saskatoon or Winnipeg look like a better bet. Youve lost your cred.

      • Stats look fine to me 7/31/2008
I just went to Royal Lepage's website and the stats look correct to me. Did you take into account the date this article was published? It is over a year old. Edmonton was going good at the end of 2006 beginning 2007. They are having problems now, but who isn't right...
