The primary responsibility of a consultant is to advise his client, and when that is a fee based service the chances are you will get the best service and advice. When a consultant specialises in an industry, such as Automotive or Food, his advice is actually invaluable provided he does not hold back the truth and tells you all he knows to help you. He probably knows the dirty little secrets of the industry, and can spot red flags on projected Cash flows and Business plans that a non specialist cannot. Isn't that worth his fees in itself if shares his secrets, enlightens you and that helps with your decision making?
