Urban wind power is definitely making a move in Metro Areas because the technology has now caught up with the need to deliver renewable energy to were it is needed. Shrouded wind turbines certainly have a leg up on others because they amplify the wind twice the ambient wind velocity. Therefore producing 175,000kWh's to 200,000kWh's annually from a level three wind regime. This is achieved with a 15 ft in diameter five bladed system that has a 8ft by 10ft footprint on a given building. This system is intelligent with several computers on board yawing into the prevailing winds. The price tag ($250,000)is very competitive and is targeted at industrial and commercial customers although interest from local and state governments have been heavy. This square shaped system is named the Wind Cube manufactured by Green Energy Technologies from Cleveland, Ohio. Green Energy Technologies is launching the system after three years of reseach this spring by placing it on a 38 story building in downtown Cleveland and at Windpower 2008 June 1st in Houston.
