  • Error in Numbers 9/11/2007
There is a glaring miscommunication of numbers in the piece referencing Las Vegas. The population of the “incorporated” City of Las Vegas is only 550,000 (now closer to 600,000) but “un-incorporated” Las Vegas which is better defined as Clark County if you are looking for statistics has a population of close to 2,000,000. Your story is comparing apples to oranges in terms of numbers. The housing numbers that you have from the MLS reference all of the “un-incorporated” Las Vegas or Clark County while the population you referenced is only for the “incorporated” City of Las Vegas. Las Vegas is similar to Los Angeles in that we have several municipalities that make up “Las Vegas.” There is City of Las Vegas, City of Henderson, City of North Las Vegas and Clark County all which cumulatively define “Las Vegas”. There are no formal boundaries, barren land or markers that divide these municipalities. The greater is Clark County which encompasses all the referenced cities and has a municipality of its own which happens to include the famous Las Vegas Strip. Please visit their web site http://www.co.clark.nv.us/ to get a better understanding of how the city is laid out.

I'm not refuting the vacancy percentage number for Phoenix, but can you tell me where you found this? I've been searching high and low for a 2007 homeowner vacancy rate for the city of Phoenix and I need to have a reference for my research. (I'm a grad student doing research.) Thank you, Patricia
