Top 5 Reasons Why Timeshares are Horrible Investments | Add Comment

Another fantastic article. The number one retort from people in the timeshare industry when confronted with the fact that vacation properties are lousy investments is that they're easily exchangeable. WRONG. Exchanges are yet another scam and often lock up your timeshare for even more time, costing you even more money. There's another article here about this: http://www.timeshareconsumergroup.org/advocacy_common_complaints.html This entire industry is in need of an overhaul, if you ask me.

The key part of your very good article was your last line "Your best bet, if you really want to buy a timeshare, is to purchase a resale." Almost every timeshare can be bought at a 50% discount and many timeshares can be bought for a > 90% discount. Most of the time that means you get everything you would have gotten but save tens of thousands of dollars. It can make sense to buy, when you get those kinds of discounts. But, the key is to do your homework before ever agreeing to listen to a timeshare sales pitch. If you know what the resale value is, of the TS you're looking at, you're much more likely to buy wisely.
