Vineyards: Grape Expectations | Add Comment

  • Investing in wine... 7/2/2007
I've heard of people investing specifically in different vintages of wine- which wines are particularly investment-worthty, do you guys think? Also- if people are going to plant grapes, wouldn't it make sense to plant whatever the kind of grapes are that make the investment-worthy wines? Where can I find more information about which grapes would be best if I were going to buy a vineyard today?

Crushpadwine.com (near San Francisco) has an interesting spin on wine making as well.

    • There are no shortcuts in wine 7/7/2007
As the experts quoted in the article said, it's best to do research and plant grapes that are best-suited to the location of the vineyard. If there was one grape that was best, it would be in every vineyard in the world. But different varietals of grapes have different levels of success in different areas. While the Bordeaux region is known for producing investment-quality wine, you can't just plant the varietals used there and expect to grow fruit that can be used to make investment-quality wine. Due diligence, as always, is key. If you want to buy a vineyard, talk to vineyard owners and managers and winemakers in the area about the best grapes for your location. As far as information on investing in wine rather than vineyards or wineries, keep your eye out for a future article on the subject.

    • Invest in Washington Winery 7/14/2007
With Eastern Washington being my home and the massive increase in the industry I am always interested in reading about wine and vineyards. My cousin (David Minick) owns a phenomenal winery(Willow Crest). He mentioned that he was putting together a package for investors....if anyone should ever be interested in this type of investment look him up and see what your local options are.
