There is enough energy that comes to earth in the form of sunlight to fulfill all of our energy needs. The only problem is being able to harness it. Solar cell technology can currently convert only a very small fraction of the total light energy into electricity and this will improve as advances are made in nanotechnology. Solar cells are also very expensive and have a low return on investment. It may take decades to break even if you purchase a system for your house.
