Loreto's is a long forgotten project of the Mexican tourism agency that is just now starting to show signs of a promising future. Unlike other destinations like Cancun which have been built for growth, developers in Loreto have taken a much more sustainable approach. Loreto is home to one of the largest sustainable developments in North America called Loreto Bay, a huge sustainable community currently under construction.

Loreto Bay
Loreto Bay is a unprecedented sustainable development project on a 8,000 acre plot of land that overlooks the Sea of Cortez. One of the innovations include deliberately building roads too small for cars so residents are forced to travel by foot, bicycles, and golf carts. There are also plans for relying solely on solar power for heating water throughout the community, as well as a seawater desalination plant, and a 500 acre wind farm. (1)
