Each day at The IRA Club we speak with people who are just getting ready to start a new self directed IRA. Generally these people have spoken with two, three or more IRA companies and have heard that a Checkbook IRA is their best investment choice.

Yes, Checkbook IRAs do have advantages. However, they also carry corresponding disadvantages which have not been fully explained. You see, most IRA companies offer only one type of IRA; they offer the “Standard Self Directed IRA” or a “Checkbook IRA” and they “talk-up” the one that they offer. The IRA Club offers both types. For many investors the “Standard Self Directed IRA” does everything they will ever need; it’s much less expensive and much less likely to ever be the subject of an IRS audit.
