Everyone is looking for ways to generate better returns on their investments. For real estate investors – both residential and commercial – this typically involves increasing rents or decreasing expenses. One often overlooked method of expense reduction, is energy conservation. For big office buildings the savings can be enormous, but even a single family rental home can generate better returns if the investor finds creative ways to conserve energy. Probably the easiest way to conserve energy is by using energy efficient light bulbs.
In 2007 the United States Congress passed a law that indicated that all light bulbs that generate 100 watts of illumination have to meet a particular set of efficiency requirements as of 2012. The reason this is important is because most incandescent bulbs currently on the market are not capable of meeting this guideline and as a result their days may be numbered.
This ties to a new technology that has seen some remarkable success. Back in the 1960s designers were looking for an indicator light that was superior to incandescent bulbs in that it could be more energy efficient, more durable, and longer lasting. The result was led light bulbs and it was something that would eventually exceed expectations beyond what anyone could have imagined.

Led light bulbs are constructed to be better then regular traditional lights by making them out of a solid piece, rather then using a filament like other bulbs use. A filament was a good idea in theory, and something that has enabled bulbs to be built relatively inexpensively, but it also was faulted in that it could not withstand much of any kind of impact. This made them have a fairly short life span compared to led light bulbs which are beginning to change the world in some pretty amazing ways.
When examining the effectiveness of led light bulbs it is important to understand just how much more beneficial they are compared to standard lighting. Incandescent bulbs, which may be on their way out, are capable of lasting just over a month of ongoing usage whereas there are better bulbs that can give so much more.
Although it is great that a single bulb can last at least this long, in comparison to other alternatives you will have to spend a lot more for these bulbs, even if they are less upfront, because it will take more to keep your home illuminated as long as others. Compact fluorescent bulbs are able to stay going for almost a year strait. On the extreme side the new led light bulbs that are slowly starting to become more popular are able to last as long as eleven years. This is astounding in comparison to other bulbs.
Not only do they last longer, they consume a tiny portion of what other bulbs do and because of this there will quickly become more people interested in using this technology. Investing in this growing field will be a win-win for all involved as this field continues to grow stronger and more vibrant.
